Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Matthew 8:18-22 With his obedience in death and resurrection Jesus gave a standing invitation to humanity to follow him – into ways of forgiveness and the abundance of mercy. Each time I choose the way of resentment and hardness of heart and of tongue, I am worrying more about my own obligations and state of life than I am about the way of Christ. Then I am like the many people of Jesus’ day who professed a desire to follow him, but turned aside to bury their dead or ‘make arrangements’ for their comfort and security. But when I choose the way of forgiveness no matter what excuses arise, saying with Christ, “Father forgive them for they know not what they do...” I follow Jesus’ footsteps along the path of life, and find myself caught up with his magnanimous mercy. Will I accept all the invitations to forgiveness and mercy proffered by Jesus along my way today? Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually. (Psalm 105:4) It is the Lord who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the Pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good as long as you live so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. King David, Psalm 103 , verses 4,5. www.gospelmysteryoftheday.ca & Gospel Mystery of the Day on Facebook Soli ad gloriam Dei
