Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Luke 14:25-33 Anything or anybody –even my own life –can become my possession. An item or a person that is ‘mine’ that I lay claim to, that I need to guard jealously, and hold close in my heart, becomes an anchor in the world, the flesh and the devil away from the kingdom of God, and a stumbling block when I try to follow Christ Jesus whole-heartedly, as He so well knew. The ‘giving up’, that is surrendering claim to, all that I call ‘mine’ is the cost of discipleship. When I give up all of my possessions, then I will be able to love God, and love my neighbour –and take up my cross -with my whole heart, mind, soul and strength. What possessions of mine possess my heart? What do I need to give up in order to follow Jesus unreservedly? Holy Spirit, help me unfasten all possessions from my being. Teach us to count our days that we might gain a wise heart ... (Psalm 90:12) Yes, you must live life beautifully, and not allow the spirit of the world that makes gods out of power, riches and pleasure make you forget that you have been created for greater things.
