Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Luke 5:33-6:2 God is constantly holding out to us the gift of new life through the ministry, passion and resurrection of Christ Jesus. It is a gift that is free and available for the taking. How is it that we –that I – once baptised, do not continually live a new and sinless life? Jesus explained this hardness of heart , of Judeans then and of us now, as much as we constantly resist change. With illustrations of a worn garment and old wine in a dried out wineskin Jesus addressed the reticence of human beings to release the old and the familiar in order to receive the newness of life available within and through the mercy of God. Will I exchange my well-worn habitual practices for the clothing of God’s mercy? Will I let go of familiar people, places and practices that have shaped my life to be able to receive the ‘new wine’ that is the newness of life offered through the Holy Spirit of Jesus? Holy Spirit, help me to receive newness of life. Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people... (Psalm 100:2) There are only two kinds of people: those who say to God, "Thy will be done," and those to whom God says, "All right, then, have it your way." C.S.
