Holy Spirit, help me make straight the way of the Lord …

Ninth day of Christmas         
             
John 1: 19-28
 
St. Augustine wrote centuries ago that all human hearts are restless until they find their rest in God. For true peace and real joy to rest in us as individuals, in our families, in our communities and in all the world, God’s love for humankind must be given place.  This coming year, how will I make straight the way of the Lord that God’s love might be received by others, and within my own heart? Holy Spirit help me to make straight the way of the Lord.  
                       
If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you will abide in the Son and in the Father. (1 John 2) 
 
Of the Father’s love begotten,
Ere the world began to be, 
He is Alpha and Omega, 
He the Source, the Ending He. 
Of the things that are that have been, 
And that future years shall see, 
Evermore and evermore. 
 
O that birth forever blessed!
When the Virgin, full of grace, 
By the Holy Ghost conceiving 
Bare the Saviour of our race, 
And the Babe, the world’s Redeemer, 
First revealed his sacred face,
