Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Romans 9:1-5 St. Paul was by birth both a Roman and a Jew, a perfect Apostle to speak to ‘adoption by God’. Without adoption, we humans remain children of this world, the flesh and Satan. With adoption, we become fully human, fully alive, and very beloved sons and daughters of the Father. The Jewish relationship to God was comprised of the covenant, the giving of the law, worship, promises, prophets and many other gifts that were found uniquely in the religion of the Israelites, with the most profound gift being the adoption of the human race into the glory and mercy of God. Is it any wonder that each man, woman and child finds his/her true being by turning to God through faith in Christ Jesus, by the liveliness of the Holy Spirit? Holy Spirit, help me live into the adoption of God. Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God. (Matthew 5:8) To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything He has given us - and He has given us everything. Thomas Merton www.gospelmysteryoftheday.ca Soli gloriam dei.
