Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Hebrews 10:11-18 God’s offering of Jesus’ life here on earth continues to save us, one man, one woman, one child at a time, as much as we allow the Holy Spirit to ‘put God’s laws in [our] hearts, and to write them on [our] minds.’ Although governments commit all kinds of atrocities, pride and greed still impose an imbalance on the world’s economy, and people still make foolish and sometimes disastrous choices, at an individual level I am, and everyone is, still free to turn to Jesus and live into his life. I am still at liberty to pray and proclaim his life, death, and resurrection recorded in scripture and in the lives of all the saints, both past and present. I can always hour by hour, day by day, turn my back on the evil and darkness that would engulf me, take up the cross of my life, and walk confidently in the footsteps of Christ’s life on earth. Today will I allow Jesus’ life to save me? Christ Jesus, save me by your life once offered for all. I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life. (John 8:12) Faith is like the feet wherewith the soul journeys to God, and love is the guide that directs it.
