Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Gospel Mystery of the Day Monday, April 8, 2019
Good Morning! Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119) John 8:12-20 It is all too easy to become filled up with the flotsam and jetsam of the world instead of the Light of Christ. Created in the image of God as I am, I am able to think about plots and projects. These plots and projects often consume my mind, if not my body and spirit as well. The big difference between me and God, however, is that God’s plot – the salvation of all of creation –is flawless while my own small plots of being comfortable, etc. have the seeds of failure within them. Similarly, my own projects, like changing this institution or fighting for that piece of property or those rights, all pale when they are compared to God’s projects – pruning our lives with the sharp shears of suffering, or bringing new creation to birth from seeds of the Word, for example. When a man or woman is filled with the Light of Christ, just like the beauty of a rose or the majesty of a sunset, they become a reminder for all who look upon them that having the Light of Christ within does create liveliness and joy that can be seen without. Will I be like the Pharisees and in my grumbling refuse to see the Light of Christ? Or will I let go of the dark plots and projects that beckon me, and turn to face Christ Jesus so that his light and liveliness, joy and beauty can flow into me? Christ Jesus, fill me with your light and cast out all darkness. Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff –they comfort me. (Psalm 23:4) If we do not radiate the light of Christ around us, the sense of the darkness that prevails in the world will increase.St. Mother Teresa of Calcutta www.gospelmysteryoftheday.ca & Gospel Mystery of the Day on Facebook Soli ad gloriam Dei
