Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Colossians 1:9-14 Such great spiritual wisdom and understanding await anyone who continually prays, taking time to listen to the Holy Spirit of God in each circumstance of life. As much as I am so attuned to God, I become filled with the knowledge of his will, and Christ’s perspective becomes mine. Then I realize that in God’s economy no pain and no joy are wasted. I can ‘be prepared to endure everything’ and ‘bear fruit in every good work’, ‘while joyfully giving thanks to the Father’, as I ‘grow in the knowledge of God’. Can I truly be content with this way of life? Holy Spirit of God, fill me with knowledge of your will. How great is the goodness, Lord, that you keep for those who fear you. (Psalm 30:19) But my prayer in the heart brought with it the clearing up of things I did not understand. An Anonymous Pilgrim in The Way of a Pilgrim www.gospelmysteryoftheday.ca Soli gloriam dei.

Colossians 1:1-8 Though it is intangible, hope is one of the most powerful of all life forces. It produces joy where there is suffering, life in spite of despair and peace in the midst of chaos. Truly hope is pure gift from God – a gift that is intrinsically connected with faith and love, and ultimately the grace of God. Moreover, it is free for the finding and requires only that I be open to seeing life circumstances from God’s point of view. How much of my life is invested in hope, rather than in complaints? Holy Spirit, strengthen your hope within my life. I trust in the kindness of God forever. (Psalm 52:8b) Overflow with hope by the power of the Spirit. Unresolved grief can deal a deadly blow to our souls. When I have loved someone deeply and they are ‘taken away’ – whether through death or ‘divorce’ (figurative or literal) or even separation –if I have no hope beyond grief, a part of my own soul can sicken and die. But if I behold my grief with prayer, I allow myself to be schooled by the Holy Spirit in a hope that reaches beyond despair. Then I can open up the possibility of growing new fruit in due season and so begin to live again in fullness of life. How am I to find such life-sustaining hope? Teach me Holy Spirit how to hope through and beyond grief. Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth. (Psalm 96:1) Painful memories can be healed to gift rather than cripple us. I Thessalonians 4:1-8 Like all other elements of creation, my body is designed according to a holy blueprint of Creator God. It is designed for life, for love and for the ‘laughter’ that proceeds from the glorious light of the Holy Spirit of God. Replete with finely integrated senses –sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch and intuition – it is through our bodies that we interact with each other and with all the rest of the created world. With each thought, word, or action, I either honour or dishonour my being, either respect and control my body or use it for things which are beneath my dignity – and health – as a beloved daughter (son) of the Father. How will I practice loving kindness and discipline with my body today? Holy Spirit of God, teach me to honour my body and keep it holy. Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God. (Matthew 5:8) Begin to see yourself as a soul with a body, not a body with a soul. Wayne Dyer www.gospelmysteryoftheday.ca Soli gloriam dei. |
