Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Baruch 5:1-9 Stepping out into a sparkling winter day after a long dark night, is true witness to the continuing beauty that is the glory of God. As sure as the rising and setting of the sun, the glory of God is ever present, ever available and consistently beautiful, no matter the deceits, decisions or the delusions of humankind. Like the light of the sun, the Glory of God is always available for me to turn towards and to take in or put on, in place of the trials and troubles that so often threaten to consume my life. Today, will I quietly and simply turn my face to the ‘sun of righteousness’, that is the beauty of the glory of God? Christ Jesus, help me forever put on the beauty of the glory of God. The Lord has done great things for us and we rejoiced. (Psalm 126:3) Try to see things more and more from My perspective. Let the Light of My Presence so fully fill your mind that you view the world through Me. Isaiah 30:18 - 26 The world, the flesh and the devil know nothing about the bread of adversity and the water of affliction. The world would have us believe that hard times belong to the weak and the unsuccessful. Jesus, who was born into the tortuous grip of Roman rule demonstrated that God’s love lives through and beyond even the most disastrous circumstances, in the hearts of those who are faithful, who live into forgiveness, and bear holy fruit. The flesh constantly barrages us with the belief that pain and suffering are to be eliminated, no matter what the cost to one’s spirit. Jesus proved that love and mercy strengthen one’s soul beyond trauma and torture into the soaring heights of resurrection. The devil tries to persuade us that suffering is a faulty end to a futile existence. Jesus opened to us the way of truth and life, trumping despair through faithful mercy. Am I willing to eat the bread of adversity and drink the water of affliction? Christ Jesus, through hardships teach me God’s mercy. Let the hearts that seek the Lord rejoice; turn to the Lord and his strength; constantly seek his face. (Psalm 105:3,4) “Though the Lord may give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself any more, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. And when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left, your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.” The Prophet Isaiah 30:20-21 www.gospelmysteryoftheday.ca & Gospel Mystery of the Day on Facebook Soli ad gloriam Dei Isaiah 29: 17-24 “The meek shall obtain fresh joy in the Lord,” predicted Isaiah. Standing on my rights, protecting my own ‘integrity’, and clambering over others to the top are sibling sins to pride, arguably the most most mortal sin of all. When I practice pride, I am relying on my own craftiness and power to right the wrongs of the world and to ‘get what I need (want)’. But when I align myself with God, and let him prune my heart here and shape my attitude, my heart is humbled, I become a willing servant to his ways, and I find a new liveliness that is rooted and grounded in the Holy Spirit of Life itself. Then I am able to open my mouth not with complaints and curses, but with words of praise for my king and my God. How is my heart today? Is it pure and ‘humbled’ enough to sing songs of praise to the Creator? Father God, out of a humbled heart I praise you. Let the hearts that seek the Lord rejoice; turn to the Lord and his strength; constantly seek his face. (Psalm 105:3,4) And I will praise you Lord, And I will sing of love come down, And as you show your face, We’ll see your glory here. Martin Smith, Lord You Have My Heart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3WVpgeXU5Y www.gospelmysteryoftheday.ca & Gospel Mystery of the Day on Facebook Soli ad gloriam Dei Matthew 15:29-37 Sickness and hunger are always only days, or even a couple of steps, away for each one of us. And so, there is never any lack of people within close range who are sick, in heart and mind if not in body, nor of individuals who are hungry, at heart for acceptance, in mind for truth, or in body for bread. The challenge is to constantly be the healing presence of Jesus to each person who is ill, and to provide good food for each hungry person we come in contact with. Am I present in spirit and generously available to minister to the sick, like Jesus? Do I have the same awareness and compassion for the hungry as Jesus? Christ Jesus, help me be like you: healing to the sick and nourishing to the hungry. He restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake. (Psalm 23:3) Accustom yourself continually to make many acts of love, for they enkindle and melt the soul. St. Teresa of Avila www.gospelmysteryoftheday.ca & Gospel Mystery of the Day on Facebook Soli ad gloriam Dei Christ Jesus, free me from the traps of frenzied activity, drunkenness and worries of this life...12/4/2018 Luke 21:25-36 king of the challenges of ‘end times, Jesus not only referenced celestial and environmental disasters what will be, but he also warned us about the societal ills that would fall on humanity. Jesus’ counsel to his disciples, to us as we face such calamities? Don’t fall into the psycho-social traps of frenetic activity, addictions and anxiety! He says, “Be on guard so that your hearts are not weighed down with dissipation and drunkenness and the worries of this life, and that day catch you unexpectedly, like a trap. For it will come upon all who live on the face of the earth.” I can expect extraordinary catastrophes of all kinds to befall humankind in my life time. Will I respond by prayerfully standing up, or will I entangle myself in frenzied activity? Will I keep alert and steadfastly proclaim God’s mercy to myself and others, or drown my emotions in ‘fun’, drugs, alcohol, or other addictions? Will I pray without ceasing, or cave in under the weight of a myriad of worries? Christ Jesus, free me from the traps of frenzied activity, drunkenness and worries of this life. Let the hearts that seek the Lord rejoice; turn to the Lord and his strength; constantly seek his face. (Psalm 105:3,4) If the devil cannot make us bad, he will make us busy .
