Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Genesis 21:5-20
Hagar was in a desperate place. She and her young child, Ishmael, were dehydrated and alone in a desert. What hope was there? Fear of the possibility of death by thirst gripped her heart. God’s response when she cried out to the Lord? An angel was sent to say, “Do not be afraid. God has heard your voices. Lift up the boy and hold him fast, for I will make a great nation of him.” It was then that Hagar’s eyes were opened to see the well of (desperately) needed water. What is it that I (desperately) fear? What is it that I (desperately) need? What is God’s (perfect) provision and where is it? Lord, help me not fear possibility but find your provision. Do not be unbelieving but believing. (John 20:27 ) A dead thing can go with the stream, but only a living thing can go against it. G.K. Isaiah 56:1-7 & Matthew 5:1-12 If a country, or a family, or a community of any kind desires God’s blessings of faith, hope and love, it is the welcoming of the Holy Spirit of God at all times and in all people that is needed. How do we welcome the Holy Spirit? For Isaiah it involves joining oneself to the Lord, ministering to God, loving the name of the Holy One, being his servants and keeping the Sabbath. Jesus on the other hand outlines eight ways of perceiving reality in the Beatitudes, highlighting God’s interpretation of ‘blessedness’. How committed am I to seeking God’s blessing? Am I willing to live into the God’s definition of blessedness? Lord, help me welcome your Holy Spirit at all times. With my whole being I sing for joy to the living God (Psalm84:2 ) May my life be a continual prayer, a long act of love.
