Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Acts 18:1-8
It is relatively easy to find things, or a person, in the light. But in the dark, I have to grope my way along the path, relying on senses other than sight to lead me on. So it is when I seek God and the gift of life he holds out to me. At times I can see him, even if it is in the far distance. But when I am in the dark night of sadness, fearfulness or anger, I have to grope my way to him. The good news is, the grace of his Holy Spirit leads me on by bringing me God’s ‘scent’ through my prayers, and the mercy of Christ, that I feel through his steady hand on my shoulder, remain sure as much as I notice them. As I search and grope for you, Lord God, help me find you. The heavens are telling the glory of God.. Day to day pours forth speech. (Psalm 19:1) Pride makes us artificial and humility makes us real. Acts 16:11-15 & John 15: 26 – 16:4
If I am not on the same frequency of love as Jesus, my spiritual ears need tuning up by, and tuning in to, the Holy Spirit of God. Then the question I ask of a new possibility that comes my way is not What`s in it for me? or What will it give me? Rather, the question becomes Does this draw me further into the knowledge and love of God? Lydia, the woman who sold purple cloth, was attuned to the Holy Spirit, and so recognized the good news that Saints Paul and Luke were proclaiming. This recognition led her to offer lodgings to these men of God. What a blessed evening that must have been! Am I so tuned into the frequency of God to immediately recognize the guidance of the Holy Spirit, who Advocates for Father God and his Son? Christ Jesus, attune me to your Advocate, your Holy Spirit, to guide me. The Lord takes delight in his people. (Psalm 149) The soul is in God and God in the soul, just as the fish is in the sea and the sea in the fish. St. Catherine of Sienna Soli gloriam dei . |
