Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Holy Spirit of God, help me wear my garment of salvation, and put on the mantle of righteousness…7/10/2025 Isaiah 61:9-11 For each one of us our morning activities when we first wake up are a significant aspect of living into each day. And for anyone and everyone, getting dressed is an essential part of any morning routine. Upon waking these days, I pray Morning Prayer with the Anima Christe, sing some canticles and hymns, and then do my prayer stretches, have a swim or a shower and remove my sleeping attire. Then it is time to put on clean clothing that prepare me for whatever weather I am heading into for the day. Similarly, the garment of salvation, figuratively and spiritually given to us at Baptism, is available to us to ‘put on’ each day; we do this during our morning prayers. It, too, is designed to replace our ‘pajamas’ of nightly repose, and to prepare us to go out into the day to live. not sleep through the minutes and the hours before us! Putting on our ‘garment of salvation’, that is taking on afresh the holy relationship with God we received at Baptism, prepares us for the ‘weather ‘ of the day, no matter what challenges or ‘storms’, blessings or joys we will encounter. Adding a mantle of righteousness of divine design, in the likeness of Christ Jesus – that is being in right relationship with Creator, our Father God, with the ‘world’ we live in, with family close and humanity at large – is the finishing touch for our spiritual attire of the day. Am I ‘dressed for any occasion’ that comes up today – with my garment of salvation and a mantle of righteousness? Am I prepared in heart, mind, body and soul to follow Christ Jesus through all the highways, and byways, the days and way of the Holy Spirit of God? Holy Spirit of God, help me wear my garment of salvation and put on the mantle of righteousness… O taste and see that the Lord is good. Blessed is the one who takes refuge in him. (Psalm 34 8 ) But clothe yourself with the Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah), and make no provision for [indulging] the flesh [put a stop to thinking about the evil cravings of your physical nature] to [gratify its] desires (lusts).
