Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Gospel Mystery of the Day Friday, April 5, 2019
Good Morning! Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119) Wisdom 1-22 Knowing God’s secret purposes running in the background of humanity’s experiences could help immensely in making sense of challenging situations and thorny relationships. What is it that stops me from knowing God’s secret purposes? The writer of Wisdom identified [my] ‘wickedness’, a.k.a. ‘sin’, as being the barrier to knowing God’s secret purposes; not to mention hoping for the consequences of holiness and so deliberately choosing holiness, humility and mercy to have a ‘good’ life; and discerning the reward of having a blameless soul, which makes me mindfully turn away from sin and towards God – no matter how ‘inconvenient’ it is in the moment. Knowing, hoping, and discerning - all of these attitudes allow me to relax into life, and to set goals that are in themselves life-giving. I may sometimes feel, like the people of Jeremiah’s time, that the people of God are ‘inconvenient’ because they cramp the style of my own wickedness, my sinful thoughts, words and actions. It is then that sins like despondency, despair and prideful exchanges ensue and rough or careless actions create chaos around me. What to do? Come back to the Lord, and strive to know the secret purposes of God as he weaves his renewed creation into my life, and the lives of those around me. Holy Spirit of God, help me know your hidden purposes. The Lord redeems the life of his servants; none of those who take refuge in him will be condemned. Psalm 34:22 Live in holy joy and fly from anything that would dissipate your spirit.St. Paul of the Cross www.gospelmysteryoftheday.ca & Gospel Mystery of the Day on Facebook Soli ad gloriam Dei
