Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
The Feast of St. Joseph , Patron of Canada
Deuteronomy 4:1-9 & Matthew 1:16-24 The speeches of Moses recorded in the book of Deuteronomy reminded the Israelites that they as a people were saved and blessed by God because of his great love for them. These speeches also reminded the people how to continue to love and obey Yahweh so that they might have life and continual blessing: “Take care and watch yourselves closely, so as neither to forget the things that your eyes have seen nor to let them slip from your mind all the days of your life; make them known to your children and your children’s children.” As a faithful Jewish man who loved and obeyed Jahweh, Joseph, when he was espoused to Mary during the Roman occupation of Israel, clearly gave the word of God much room in his mind. It seems that he kept his thoughts on Yahweh so much that he received messages from his God even in his dreams –and so allowed his heart to be aligned with the Holy Spirit and marry Mary to become Jesus’ foster Father. We too, like Joseph, are to live as people of God keeping our thoughts on Holy things, especially in these times. Will I, like Joseph, move aside the chatter of anxiety, and defragment the clutter of information, issues, and inordinate affections by freeing up space for the ways and words of God in my thinking? Holy Spirit of God, help me keep your ways and words in my mind. The Lord sends out his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. (Psalm 147:3) Ubi caritas et amor, Deus ibi est. Where true love and charity are found, God is always there. A hymn of the 9th century. www.gospelmysteryoftheday.ca & Gospel Mystery of the Day on Facebook Soli ad gloriam Dei
