Holy Spirit of God, help me give up to you all that is yours…

 
Matthew 22, 15-21

 
Work of any kind but particularly writing work, can be very demanding. Even after working a full day, it seems that the default for my mind is always the next document that I have to produce – numbing my soul with “gotta, wudda, shuddas”, starving my heart for lack of ‘real’ relationship, and compromising my physical strength for lack of exercise. I am tempted to sit for hours at a keyboard, rather than walk, sing and pray with the Holy Spirit of God and other people in my life.   So easily my soul is hijacked into the ‘projects’ , possessions or pressing needs at hand, and I become a human doing rather than the human being I am designed to be.  Jesus understood this dynamic in life and constantly called his disciples to hold the things of the world, and the flesh, lightly and to follow him full-heartedly, without compromise of any kind. Indeed, our prayer along with Saints throughout the ages should always and simply be, “I am Yours.  You are mine.  I’m here to do your will.” How much of my life belongs to God? Will I be free enough to release to God all that I am, and all that I have to offer?  Holy Spirit of God, help me give up to you all that is yours.  
 
Ascribe to the Lord O families of the peoples, Ascribe to the Lord the Lord, the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts.  (Psalm 96:7&8)
                                                                                   
Our Lord came not to destroy but to save. Everything is safe which we commit to Him, and nothing is really safe which is not so committed.
