Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Ephesians 2:19-22 As family, as co-workers, as friends or as a faith group, we face challenges together as ‘community’ that can so easily break us apart. As much as we individually give in to selfish ambition, comforts, or personal agendas, a spirit of divisiveness and disconnection can persist, leaving our ‘community’ in fragments. But as much as we align ourselves with Christ’s selfless idea of connection founded on merciful love and truth, we can together, in our community form a dwelling place on earth for the Holy Spirit of God, despite the social dysfunction around us. This means that I – that we – continue to focus on gratitude rather than complaints; on forgiveness rather than fault-finding; on compassion rather than being right; on holiness and purity rather than getting ahead in the world; on works of mercy rather than self-defence. By focussing on building a dwelling for God in our midst, we can find the peace and joy of true koinonia (Greek; communion or joint participation) and overcome the divisiveness that drags both individuals and communities into great darkness. Am I focused on building up the success of my family, my business, my friends or the church, or will I concentrate on building a dwelling for the Holy Spirit of God in our midst? Holy Spirit of Jesus, help us build a spiritual dwelling for you. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By your love everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another. “ Jesus to his followers. (John 13:34-35) Every human activity can be put at the service of the divine and of love. We should all exercise our gift to build community. ― Jean Vanier, Community And Growth www.gospelmysteryoftheday.ca & Gospel Mystery of the Day on Facebook Soli ad gloriam Dei
