Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Acts 6:8-15 When we follow the Way of Jesus, there comes a time for each of us when we are suddenly confronted and brought before the authorities of some sector or another of society. Even when we are simply a servant of the people, as was Stephen, our ways of uncompromising mercy and peace as we follow Jesus counter-act the prideful and greed- driven society we live in. When these times of `reprimand` come for me, will I be steadfast enough to speak with the same wisdom, grace and Spirit that Stephen had when he was brought before the Jewish council? Christ Jesus, help me, like Stephen, remain faithful and full of grace and power. Put false ways far from me: and graciously teach me your law. I have chosen the way of faithfulness. (Psalm 119) Obedience is first an unfolding of ourselves before our heavenly Father… Like Jesus on trial, we gain strength for an ugly moment by focusing on the One who is our identity.
