Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Genesis 1:20 – 2.4 That human beings are made in the image of God is indisputable. Unfortunately humankind has always struggled with the power of free will. We each have the ability to choose evil over good – or good, over and above evil, choices. It is this freedom that leaves room for evil desires to take root in our lives, especially deceivingly ‘good’ desires like fame, fortune, belonging and success. What help is there for me as I face the confusing deceits of the ‘world, the flesh and the devil’? Thanks be to Christ Jesus for the gift of the Holy Spirit who is but a prayer away! Holy Spirit of God, let no evil desire control me, for your glory and love dwell in my heart, because I am made in your image. I live by faith in the Son of God, who has loved me and given himself up for me. (Galatians 2) Accustom yourself continually to make many acts of love, for they enkindle and melt the soul. 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 Psalm 112 I become paralysed by evil when I am deceived by its half-truths or outright lies. It is much easier to fear the shadows of the formless unknown than that which is clearly lighted and identifiable. Even when facing the horrors of torture and crucifixion, because he embraced the truth of his passion, Jesus was able to move through his fear by embracing the mystery of the absolute truth of his Father’s love, and trusting the hope of God’s promise of his resurrection. So many kinds of ‘evil’ threaten my life. But when I allow the Holy Spirit of God to firmly secure my heart in the life and obedience of Christ Jesus, I realize that I, too, can ultimately embrace the truth of Love and be unafraid of evil. Holy Spirit, secure my heart firmly in Christ Jesus, so I am unafraid of evil. Light rises in the darkness for the upright: gracious, merciful and full of truth. Psalm 112:4 God is a spring of living water which flows unceasingly into the hearts of those who pray. St. Louis de Montfort www.gospelmysteryoftheday.ca Soli gloriam dei. |
