Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Matthew 8:18-22 Creature comforts and personal plans, while not bad in themselves are debilitating when it comes to following Jesus. When I am more concerned about having a comfy mattress, a long sleep or a leisurely shower than meeting up with Christ on my knees in prayer or in the hot and dusty streets, I find it hard to follow Jesus. Similarly when furthering my business or professional ventures, or building up my estate, are the top priority in my plans for the day, I will be saying, ‘Just let me first...’ to Jesus all day long. Then by evening, he will be far ahead of me, ministering to, and proclaiming his truth to, those along the way who chose to unconditionally follow him. What is in the way of me following Jesus immediately? Holy Spirit, help me follow Jesus without hesitation. ‘You have turned my mourning into dancing. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to you forever. (Psalm 30:11) Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.
