Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Acts 11:19-26 & Acts 12:24-13:5 Remaining faithful to the Lord in the early Church required great commitment. Only by prayer and fasting were the early followers of the Way of Jesus able to endure the profiling and persecution that swirled around their meetings, let alone their daily comings and goings. Peter and John, Barnabas, Paul, Stephen, Simeon, James and all the other Apostles were known as great men of prayer and of fasting – especially when discerning the will of God in times of tension and stress. Do I similarly remain faithful to God by seeking his will at all times and in all places by remaining mindful of his presence and continent in heart, mind and body through the discipline of fasting? Help me remain faithful to you, O Lord. Not to us, O Lord, but to your name give glory, for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness. (Psalm 115: 1) The secret of happiness is to live moment by moment and to thank God for what he is sending us every day in his goodness.
