Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Mark 7:31-37 Love (caritas, compassion) and truth are always available to be received and to proclaim, but, like the man who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech, I am often deaf and mute to love and truth –to God’s grace. Sometimes, when I am too full of self-interest I do not listen to God’s voice and ‘many things’ impede my speaking kindness or the divine reality underlying life. Then I, like the deaf man brought to Jesus, need to be healed. I need to have Jesus ‘put his fingers in my ears’ to open up my heart to listen to Him; I need Jesus to ‘spit and touch my tongue’ that I like Him might speak plainly God’s loving kindness and truth Am I available for the Holy Spirit to bring me, deaf and mute as I am, to Jesus for healing? Christ Jesus, open my ears to listen and release my tongue to speak. The Lord sets the prisoners free. (Psalm 146:7) Open my ears, Lord, help me to hear your voice, Open my ears, Lord, help me to hear. ... And we’ll hear like never before, And we’ll speak in new ways...
