Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Matthew 13:44-45 Every time I ‘spend’ my time, treasure or talent, I purchase or hunt for something and so give it the value of my life-blood and my being. Indeed I ‘sell my soul’ to purchase whatever I ‘treasure’. But what is it I am purchasing? The goods and services of the world give fleeting pleasure or use, while the treasures of the Kingdom of God are portable from this life to the next. What are the treasures of the Kingdom of God that are buried in the ‘field’ of an organization (perhaps a family) or a calling? What is the treasure of the Kingdom of God that is a ‘pearl of great price’? The infilling, Holy, Spirit of Christ Jesus of God, with all of its liveliness, peace, joy and love in truth and truth in love is the true treasure of God’s Kingdom. Am I willing to seek out, hunt for and chase down the treasure in a field and the pearl of great price and sell everything else I have accumulated and stuffed into my life so that I am able to afford – in time, treasure and talent –the treasures of the Kingdom of God? Christ Jesus, guide me to purchase only the true treasures of your Kingdom. O my strength, I will watch for you. (Psalm 59:9) Each day holds a surprise. But only if we expect it can we see, hear, or feel it when it comes to us. Let's not be afraid to receive each day's surprise, whether it comes to us as sorrow or as joy. Fr.
