Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Acts 10:34-38 & Matt 3:13-17 Prejudice (pre-judging), un-forgiveness, and a pre-occupation with things that are evil - these are common ways the devil oppresses human kind. The remedy for this oppression, said St. Peter, is Jesus, the Son of God who is the Saviour of the world. Jesus, the Son of God who was the Son of Man, came into the world without an attitude of entitlement; he was baptized along with all the sinners around him. We know that with his very life, within three short years of God’s public introduction of his Son as ‘his beloved Son in whom he is well pleased’ at the River Jordan, Jesus proclaimed and demonstrated a new world order of forgiveness. And far from being fascinated with things that are evil, Jesus insisted that he and John the Baptist, not only consider but do that which fulfills all righteousness, no matter how nonsensical it seems. In this way, from his unique and divinely appointed birth and baptism, and through his ministry and mission of forgiveness, which is the restoration of relationships, Jesus saves all who were, and are, and will be, oppressed by the devil. Will I live into Jesus’ Baptismal humility, forgiveness, and commitment to the fulfillment of all righteousness? Holy Spirit of Jesus, by your baptism, help me live into mine. And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know him who is true... He is the true God and eternal life. (1John 5: 19,20) God removes the sin of the one who makes humble confession, and thereby the devil loses the sovereignty he had gained over the human heart. St. Bernard See the explanation of the Fish, (ICHTHUS), as a secret early Christian symbol following today’s GMD www.gospelmysteryoftheday.ca & Gospel Mystery of the Day on Facebook Soli ad gloriam Dei Pintrest The ichthys or ichthus, from the Greek ikhthýs is a symbol consisting of two intersecting arcs, the ends of the right side extending beyond the meeting point so as to resemble the profile of a fish. The symbol was adopted by early Christians as a secret symbol. A representation of a fish was used in ancient times as a pagan fertility talisman or amulet, or as a Christian symbol for the Greek word ichthys interpreted as an acrostic in which the Greek letters are the initials of the words I ēsous Ch ristos th eou hy ios s ōtēr meaning Jesus Christ Son of God Savior. Luke 5: 12-16 This short passage of scripture succinctly states Jesus’ work on earth. It was simple: heal and pray. After healing a man with a ‘dreaded skin disease’ Jesus tended those who crowded around him, healing them and their loved ones. ‘Then he would withdraw to deserted places and pray’. I can picture Christ doing this day after day – healing and praying, praying and healing, everywhere, all the time. As a follower of Jesus, I am called to be constantly engaged in these two simple movements of life as well – bringing a healing glance, touch, or word into each circumstance, each relationship along my life’s journey, and then again aligning myself with the Grace and Truth of God through times of prayer so that I can go back out and heal by the grace of God. It is simple! – although it may not be easy. Will I commit myself to healing and praying as Jesus did? Holy Spirit of Jesus, help me heal and pray. May prayer be made for him continually... (Psalm 72:3) Act as if every day were the last of your life, and each action the last you perform. 1 John 4:7 - 5:4 . The readings from the letters and the Gospel of John the be-loved disciple of Jesus are fitting fare for these days when day light is returning to the sky and we consider the Light of the World as an infant, revealed by the stars of heaven. The underlying theme of St. John’s writings, and indeed the whole theo-drama of the world, is love. In wisdom, mercy and all of life, John tells us, God’s love continues to be within and to work through human beings and in all of creation. As much as I allow God’s redeeming love to flow through me to others, I align myself with his will for humankind –and for myself – and the healing and restorative trajectory of my own soul, and the soul of other men, women and children, into God’s life and light for eternity. Will I use each moment, each hour, of this day to love with the love of God that is pure, strong and life-giving? Holy Spirit of God, teach me how to love, for love is from you. God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16) Since love grows within you, so beauty grows. For love is the beauty of the soul. .
