Your word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path. (Psalm 119)
Isaiah 26:1-6 & Matthew 7:21-27
Bigger, better, taller, more brilliant – these are the habitations society wilfully builds into. Jesus points out that no matter how expansive and amazing such constructs of mind, soul and body are, these are like building our lives on sand. Such pursuits, growing as they do from envy and pride, more than from mercy and justice, can not withstand the storms of time and the floods of change. On the other hand, grounding my words, thoughts and actions in the rock of God’s steadfast love and faithfulness is like building on bedrock. Such labours, nurturing faith, hope and love as they do, stand up in the floods of time and the storms of change. Holy Spirit of God, help me place my life on the rock of your steadfast love.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. (Psalm 23:5)
Lord, I am here! What do you want me to do?
